Implementation of European standard DIN EN 1089-3 "color code"
of gas cylinders in Germany
The Euro standard DIN EN 1089-3 was published in July 1997.
Of specific national conditions, in Germany the standard have to applied by 1 July 2006
By marking the new color coding with the capital letter "N" on the cylinder shoulder
and through the various valve ports to DIN 477 for various types of gas mix-ups
confusion are virtually eliminated.
The possible confusion between the technical and medical oxygen in the transition phase
is offset by the change order
Important Note:
The only mandatory labeling of gas content is done on the dangerous goods label.
In addition, the gas content is determined by the corresponding valve.
The color coding is used as additional information about the properties of gases
(flammable, oxidizing, toxic, aso.). It is already apparent when the dangerous goods label
still not readable due to a great distance.
